Community Through Culture – Stronger Neighborhoods

Since July 2025, Berlin Mondiale has been implementing the model project “Community through Culture – Strong Neighborhoods between Shared Accommodations and Large Housing Estates” in Marzahn-Nord. Around Otto-Rosenberg-Platz, an open cultural project space has been created in the neighborhood in collaboration with local partners and cultural education institutions.
The project is aimed at young refugees and their neighborhood. In artistic and creative formats, they actively participate, develop their own ideas, and collaborate with others. This fosters encounters, trust, and new connections between residents and the neighborhood.
Cultural education work not only promotes creative development but also strengthens self-efficacy and dialogue-oriented conflict resolution. By contributing their perspectives and helping shape the social space, participants can develop a sense of belonging and shared responsibility within and for the neighborhood. In this way, the project contributes to social cohesion and violence prevention in Marzahn-Hellersdorf and demonstrates how people can actively, solidarically, and creatively shape their neighborhood.
The project is funded by the Berlin State Commission Against Violence within the framework of the “Fund to support victims of politically extremist violence.” which supports initiatives that enable encounters, strengthen social cohesion, and promote participation—for a diverse and solidaristic Berlin.
