From Max to Martha
Since June 2026, Berlin Mondiale has been implementing the model project “Kultur verbindet Quartiere – Teilhabe durch kulturelle Stadtentwicklung” in Wedding. Around Leopoldplatz, there are limited open and free spaces for culture, encounters and creative work, while existing initiatives and offers are often highly fragmented.
Our aim is to create a cultural connection from Maxplatz via Antonkiez to Martha-Ndumbe-Platz through intergenerational activities, networking and visible actions in public space. Questions of neighbourhood, connection and living together in Wedding play an important role in this work.
We work with local organisations, initiatives and residents, connecting them with artists and cultural practitioners from the neighbourhood. Together, we develop new formats and strengthen the local network.
In 2026, we are starting in Kiezblock Antonkiez. The southern section of Maxstraße was traffic-calmed in autumn 2025. We want to use the newly created space as an urban laboratory and experimental meeting place. Together with local residents, surrounding organisations and the organisation Resilient Cities, we are developing accessible neighbourhood activities to bring the Kiezblock to life as an open space for local participation, creativity and community use.
